Rolled lead sheets are often used as flashing material around upstands in roofs.

It is used where several different types of material like brick and wood are coming together. Examples are chimney masonry and the adjacent roof tiles, or the masonry of the façade of a building where it meets the roof. Lead sheets are often used outside. Therefore a natural patina layer is formed on the surface of lead. This layer protects the material and makes it more durable. Lead is resistant to large differences in temperature.
