Working at Roba

Loyalty, commitment and flexibility: values we truly stand for at Roba. We believe in a personal approach, and you’ll notice that. With us, you’re not just a number, but a colleague we really get to know.

At Roba, everything revolves around collaboration and growth. We invest in a strong bond between employer and employee, with the aim of building a lasting relationship. Your career path with us is therefore not set in stone. You yourself influence the direction you take. Together with your manager, you draw up a personal development plan that aligns with your ambitions and talents.

Informal

Roba also differs from other companies in the way we interact with one another. This approach is similar to how people work together within a small business. The atmosphere is informal, and we believe it is important that we can address one another on any matter, although this must always be done in a constructive manner.

It is also important to us that we pull together when necessary. This becomes very clear, for example, during the toughest periods of the Covid pandemic, when there may be fewer staff on the shop floor in the service centres and office staff step in in the evenings to keep things running.

Creative

Roba has no thick layers of middle management. Of course, there is a management team. They take the saying ‘my door is always open to you’ quite literally, which encourages staff to pop in and share their views – whether asked or not – on the day-to-day running of the business.

New ideas and concepts are also welcome here. Because the lines of communication are short, these ideas can be assessed quickly and, if the outcome is positive, implemented. Many Roba employees feel that, with the trust they receive from the owners, they can build their own ‘business’ without anyone constantly looking over their shoulder. This gives an enormous sense of freedom and reinforces the ambition to be an ‘entrepreneur in employment’.

Traditional

A great deal has, of course, changed at Roba since its foundation in 1937. Yet internally, there is a sense that the company has essentially remained the same. It is traditional in the best sense of the word, holding fast to the core values that guided its actions right from the very beginning. Its management style is modern, without jumping on every passing bandwagon. The idea here is that it is better to wait for the right train to come along and then take that one.

Perhaps one of the most striking aspects of Roba is that, unlike the way things are done in other companies, employees are not judged on achieving targets and the like. The focus is primarily
on continuity and stability, as this serves everyone within the company best.

With a focus on our people

Working at Roba Metals means being part of a family business that cares about people. We’d like to share a few of the things you’ll enjoy when you start working as a Robaist. This will give you a complete picture of who we are and what makes working at Roba unique.

One big family

Roba is a true family business where there is no rigid hierarchy or excessive meeting culture, although this isn’t always possible given the organisation’s growth. The family business aspect appeals to many people. It ensures that working at Roba feels like working within one big family. A family where people listen to one another and where everyone can show what they are capable of. And a family where we look after one another, not only in terms of employment conditions, but also when it comes to each other’s health. For example, we are constantly looking at how tasks that were previously carried out by hand can be made easier through the use of ergonomic aids.

Socially responsible

Every year, Roba Metals supports various social initiatives, sports clubs and charities in the regions where we operate. For instance, we contribute to local sports clubs and events in IJsselstein, support projects that create opportunities for children and young people, and back organisations dedicated to health and wellbeing, such as the Princess Máxima Centre and the Ronald McDonald Children’s Fund. We also invest in sustainable projects, including nature restoration through Trees for All. As a family business, we believe it is important to give something back to society. Not only through financial contributions, but above all through our commitment to the people around us.
