What is an aluminum tear plate?

A checker plate is an aluminum plate with a relief structure that provides grip and extra strength. During the rolling process, the checkers are mechanically rolled into the plate. This raised pattern prevents slipping and at the same time makes the plate stiffer without adding extra weight.

Applications of aluminum tear plates

Due to their combination of strength, grip, and appearance, aluminum tear plates are widely used in, among other things:

  • Industry for work floors, platforms, and stairs
  • Transport sector for loading floors, trailers, and vehicle equipment
  • Construction & architecture for walkways, platforms, and facade finishing
  • Design & interiors for furniture, wall coverings, and decorative metal

Aluminum tear plates are strong, wear-resistant, and offer excellent grip. Thanks to their recognizable pattern, they are ideal for applications where safety and strength are important. Think of anti-slip floors, stair treads, means of transport, or industrial interior finishes.

Quality and alloy

For our aluminium tear plates, we use almost exclusively the high-quality alloy EN AW-5754. This alloy is known for its:

  • High mechanical strength
  • Excellent wear resistance
  • Corrosion resistance, even in maritime or chemically demanding environments

This makes AW-5754 ideal for applications in shipping, transport, industry and mechanical engineering. The aluminium tear plates comply with the relevant standards such as EN 1386 and can be supplied with a certificate in accordance with EN 10204-3.1. Typical delivery thicknesses are, for example, 2.5/4 mm, 3.5/5 mm and 5/6.5 mm, where the second number indicates the total thickness including tear height.
