Smelting facility for high-quality aluminium recycling

Roba Metals Delfzijl is Roba Recycling’s smelting site. At our own smelting facility, we process carefully sorted and inspected metal streams into new, high-quality recycled material. In this way, we make aluminium available again as a raw material for European manufacturing and retain valuable materials within the supply chain.

The metal streams processed in Delfzijl have already been collected, sorted and inspected during earlier stages of the recycling process. By also carrying out the remelting ourselves, we maintain control over an important part of the recycling chain: from the collected residual material to a new, usable raw material.

From sorting to new raw material

The recycling process begins with the collection of production scrap and residual materials. In IJsselstein, the collected metal streams are sorted and carefully inspected. The appropriate next step can only be determined once the type and composition of the material are known. Suitable material streams are then transported to Delfzijl. Here, we remelt the selected material at our own smelting facility to produce new, high-quality recycled material. This gives aluminium that might otherwise be treated as waste a new purpose as a usable raw material. Roba Recycling collects materials, sorts them accurately and remelts them into new raw materials.

In-house aluminium remelting

The composition of a material stream determines the end result. High-quality recycling therefore begins before the material reaches Delfzijl. By carefully sorting and inspecting the metal streams first, we can use each material appropriately within the smelting process.

In Delfzijl, we return the selected material to a liquid state. This process produces new recycled material that can be used as a raw material for further industrial applications. Because we operate the smelting facility ourselves, we retain direct oversight of the process and the quality of the material we produce.

Using energy-efficient furnaces and accurate separation technologies, Roba Recycling aims to retain as much of the value of aluminium production scrap as possible. Our approach focuses on high-quality material recovery and reuse without unnecessary loss of quality.

One recycling process, two specialist sites

IJsselstein and Delfzijl each fulfil a specific role within Roba Recycling’s recycling process. In IJsselstein, the focus is on receiving, sorting and inspecting collected metal streams. Suitable material streams are then remelted in Delfzijl to produce new, high-quality recycled material.

By coordinating the work carried out at these two sites, we maintain control over the material stream from collection through to remelting. We know which materials are received, how they have been sorted and inspected and which route is required to preserve their value as effectively as possible.

High-quality aluminium recycling

Aluminium can be reused as a raw material, provided that the material streams are carefully separated, inspected and processed. This is precisely what Roba Recycling focuses on. Residual streams are not treated as worthless waste, but as materials whose existing value should be retained as effectively as possible.

In Delfzijl, our focus is therefore on high-quality recycling. Our aim is not simply to remelt material, but to produce a reliable recycled raw material that can be used again. This helps reduce demand for new primary raw materials and contributes to more efficient use of the aluminium already available within Europe.

Cradle-to-cradle recycling

Roba Recycling works according to the cradle-to-cradle principle. This means that production scrap and residual materials are not seen as the end of the material supply chain, but as the beginning of a new application. By recovering aluminium and making it available again as a raw material, we help close the loop.

Smelting facility in Delfzijl

At our smelting facility in Delfzijl, we process carefully selected and inspected metal streams into new, high-quality recycled material. The work carried out at this site follows on from the earlier process stages in IJsselstein, where collected metal streams are sorted and inspected. By carrying out the remelting process ourselves, Roba Recycling directly connects the collection and sorting of residual streams with the production of new raw materials. In this way, we close the loop and return valuable metals to the supply chain. Roba Metals controls the process from purchasing and processing through to remelting at its own smelting facilities.
