Lean Duplex 1.4162

Lean Duplex 1.4162 is a duplex alloy that offers an excellent combination of strength, corrosion resistance and cost-efficiency. Thanks to its low nickel content, 1.4162 is an affordable alternative to standard austenitic stainless steels such as 304L and, in some applications, even 316L, without compromising on performance.

With mechanical strength almost double that of austenitic grades and good resistance to general corrosion, pitting and stress corrosion cracking, 1.4162 is ideal for demanding structural and corrosive environments.

Key properties

  1. High mechanical strength due to duplex microstructure
  2. Good corrosion resistance, particularly in environments with low to moderate chloride content
  3. Cost-effective alternative to 304L / 316L thanks to low nickel content
  4. Good weldability (with the correct welding procedures)
  5. High wear resistance and excellent structural stability

Typical applications

Thanks to its excellent price-performance ratio, Lean Duplex 1.4162 is widely used in:

  1. Construction of (pedestrian) bridges, load-bearing structural elements and architectural structures
  2. Storage tanks such as water and process fluid tanks, silo construction and tanks for the food, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors
  3. Process industry for piping systems, heat exchangers and plant components subject to higher pressure loads
  4. Water and wastewater treatment for plant components exposed to chlorides and housings, frames and sheet metal in corrosive environments

Why choose Lean Duplex 1.4162?

Lean Duplex 1.4162 offers high strength, good corrosion resistance and a very attractive cost, making it an excellent alternative to traditional austenitic alloys in numerous structural and industrial applications.
